Mounting the box

A table clamp for a desk edge, plates for a rig, or the bare insert pattern if you are building your own bracket.

All three options bolt to the same four M3 inserts on the back of the box, so you can change your mind later without touching anything else.

Will the clamp fit your desk

Check this before you print or build anything.

Max table thickness
44 mm
Required flat depth
30 mm minimum, 40 mm ideal
Orientation
Horizontal or vertical

The flat depth is the part worth measuring. The clamp needs an unobstructed run along the underside of the table edge, so a lip, a drawer rail, or a crossbeam sitting right behind the edge will get in the way. If it will not fit, the plates are your answer.

Building the table clamp

Lay these out first

  • Printed clamp body, grip plate, and pivot piece
  • Clamp screw
  • Rubber pads or rubber roll

Tools

  • Glue
  • Scissors or a knife for the rubber
  1. Screw in the screw until it just comes out on the other side.
  2. Glue the grip plate on using the pivot piece.
  3. Cut rubber grips to size and stick them on.

Fitting the mounting plates

Dimensions of the large SIMINPUT mounting plates
Large plates, for the long sides of the box.
Dimensions of the small SIMINPUT mounting plates
Small plates, for the short sides.

The plates bolt to the back of the box and attach to any flat surface or rig. Each plate has an elongated slot, so you get some travel when lining up existing holes. Large plates run along the long sides of the box, small along the short sides. Which one you want depends on where the holes in your rig already are.

The slot range is how far your screw centre can travel with an 8 mm screw filling the full slot width. Smaller screws with appropriately sized washers give you even more range. The second measurement is the distance between the two opposing plates, so it is the span your rig has to cover.

Slot width
8 mm
Large plates
128 mm slot range, 149 mm between the plates
Small plates
90 mm slot range, 189 mm between the plates

Building your own bracket

Both accessories bolt to the four M3 threaded inserts on the back of the box, with 150 x 110 mm spacing, 8 mm deep. You can use these directly for any custom bracket or arm. The box can also be front-mounted with four M3 threaded inserts on the top face with the same 150 x 110 mm spacing.
